Sweetcron & Chrome
Time for some views on a couple of little apps that have appeared recently.
First off is Sweetcron, every wanted to be able to update twitter, or flickr and have your blog updated too? If so then Sweetcron might be for you.
Sweetcron is a light weight blogging app like WordPress (but a hell of a lot lighter) which will also pull in your RSS feeds from other web apps like twitter or flickr and update your home page. The idea is it’s an Automated Lifestream pulling in all your updates to one place so you don’t have to post the same thing on flickr and then also post it to your blog.
Although things like Flickr allow you to post to your blog from flickr you always run the risk of mucking up styles and layouts of your blog as Sweetcron works off your RSS feed it can stlye the items with it’s styling and not risk pulling any odd bits off bad CSS.

RSS Feed in an Image.
On my, what now seems like daily reading of Apartment Therapy I came across Wordle a great little site which will turn a load of text, an RSS feed or other things in to a pretty image.
Below you can see what it do to my RSS Feed.

Why Customer Service shouldn’t be overlooked…
I’m sure if you’re reading this you’ve heard of Moo amoung others.
Last week I moved house (being a student sucks having to move year after year), unlike last year which has us moaning at our landlords for 2 weeks to get the Internet hooked up. I was able to sort it out myself. I know it’s not a big deal and I’ve done it before so it was nothing “new”.
Anyway, I had to shop around for the best connection, price, set up cost etc. I had to because the housemates I’m with (one of which is the misses) didn’t want to have to fork out a small fortune for a connection. After a few hours of looking around at guys like Pipex (who are now Tiscalli, so I ran like the wind), Mad as a Fish, Eclipse and TitanADSL I couldn’t warrent spending £25-£30 a month for “up to 8 megs Broadband” along with a set up charge of £30-£50.

Thinking of becoming a Web designer after University?
I know this is on my mind for when I finally leave the life of education and I’m sure its on the mind of many others too.
What does it take to be employed as a Web designer? After coming across the Boagworld.com podcast. I was reading through some recent news and other bits on the site and came across Andy Rutledge’s blog post about the “Employable Web Designer”. So if you’re wondering about what to do as as well as waiting for this years WDC to see what’s going on in the world of the web have a read and take some notes.
Almost daily I receive one or more emails from design students and aspiring Web designers unsure about their current education. They’re concerned that what they’re learning will not sufficiently prepare them for the real world. They fear they’re being taught outdated practices, or simply that their curriculum focuses on the wrong things.
